New requirement for Aniline in toys

From the 5th of December 2022, the presence of aniline will be restricted in certain toy materials, such as textile and leather toy material or finger paints, according to the Commission Directive (EU) 2021/903 published on the 4th of June 2021.

The susbstance:
- Aniline - CAS n° 62-53-3

Aniline is classified as carcinogenic category 2 and mutagenic category 2 under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.

The new restriction concern all toys intended for children under 36 months and toys intended to be placed in the mouth.

The new limits are:

- 30 mg/kg after reductive cleavage in textile toy material and leather toy material
- 10 mg/kg as free aniline in finger paints
- 30 mg/kg after reductive cleavage in finger paints
